At a Thursday hearing, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian, who is in charge of of his trial in New York asked Combs whether he rejected the federal government's offer that could have shortened his possible prison sentence if convicted.

Combs was arrested and indicted last year after a bombshell lawsuit from his former partner and artist, Casandra Ventura, alleging drug-fueled parties described as “freak-offs” and years of physical and sexual abuse.

Combs quickly settled that suit, but this resulted to other accusers and witnesses to come forward afterward to accuse Combs of overseeing a culture of violent abuse and sex trafficking, leading up to a massive federal raid on Combs’ properties in L.A. and Miami

Defense attorney Marc Agnifilo said that Combs’ legal team discussed the offer with him and that together they decided to reject it. Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey said the proposal would have given Combs a lighter sentence than he would receive if he is found guilty at trial on all charges.

Combs has denied all the charges against him, including those in a superseding March indictment, and has pleaded not guilty.
