Nigeria amongst other African countries slammed with Trump's Tarrifs

Several African nations are among the countries hit by sweeping tariffs announced by President Donald Trump on the US' global trading partners.

Trump has announced a minimum 10% tariff on all imports to the US and additional "reciprocal tariffs" for 20 African countries, including 30% for South Africa.

During Wednesday's announcement at the White House, the Republican president said that the US had been taken advantage of by "cheaters" and had been "pillaged" by foreigners.

Other African countries hit with extra tariffs include 50% for Lesotho, 47% for Madagascar, 40% for Mauritius and 37% for Botswana.

Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Senegal and Liberia were among those countries whose exports to the US will be subject to the baseline tariff of 10%.

Trump said the reciprocal tariffs were "for countries that treat us badly".

Nigerian exports were hit too with 14%
